The 2014 Bahamas Bowl, the August 1 st , 2013 Mariners 9 th inning
meltdown against the Red Sox, and the 2020 Wyndham
Championship…what do they all have in common? Three of the
most PAINFUL bad beats I’ve ever suffered.
Without going into details on the other two, I had Billy Horschel
and 3 rd round leader Si Woo Kim to win the Wyndham. Si Woo
imploded on the front nine and made a brief run on the backside
to no avail. But Horschel was in control…there was no way that a
600-1 shot in Jim Herman would beat him! And he choked. I’ll be
sick about this one for days, weeks, and months. They say the
bad losses stick with you more than the good wins and for now
I’m not arguing.
If there is a sliver of positivity, it’s that I’ve finally taken over the
lead from Producer Michael by hitting both of my prop bets – a
Webb Simpson top-5 and Horschel top-10 for $50 each. Over the
8 weeks of this competition, I’m now turning a healthy profit so if
you haven’t tailed my picks, might be a good time to start now.
We’re into the PGA Tour playoffs this week at THE NORTHERN
TRUST (not sure why it all has to be capitalized but hey, that’s
their thing)…and it’s a major-quality field including all of the top-25
golfers in the world. With 55 golfers cut before next week’s tour
semifinals in Illinois, look for some big names below the cut line
(Fowler, Fleetwood, Spieth, and Rose) to potentially make major
moves. For the spirit of this competition, I’m not going to guess as
to which ones of those ranked 71-125 in the FedEx will succeed
this week and instead focus on finding a likely first-time winner
since play resumed in June.
Once again the rules for our challenge:
Each week, Harry, Parlay Kid, newcomer Michael (Best Bet
Corner producer) and I will get a simulated $200 to bet…$100 on
golfers to win that week’s tournament and another $100 to be
spread amongst top-5, top-10, top-20, and other prop bets. We’ll
track the progress to see who does the best and whether we can
produce positive ROIs.
