For once I called my shot.
I know Jon Rahm was the favorite and deservedly so at Torrey
Pines. But his clutch putting on Sunday earned him his first major
title in what was as dramatic and exciting a back 9 as we’ve seen
in quite a while.
There was so match to unpack from those final 9 holes:
-Bryson’s meltdown
-Louie’s consistency (until his tee shot at 17)
-Rory’s inability to make putts
-Brooks’ 18 th hole
-Rahm’s insane amount of birdie chances
-Rahm’s last 2 putts
It was everything you could ask for a major championship as I
saw it. And yes, I put my money where my mouth was for once!
Three very entertaining majors thus far in 2021 with The Open
Championship in 3 weeks or so
On to the Travelers Championship, which at slightly more than
6,800 yards, is one of the shortest layouts on the PGA Tour. This
was where, last year, Dustin Johnson turned his summer season
around en route to an eventual FedEx Cup title.
What’s most surprising about this week’s tournament is the quality
of the field coming off arguably the 2 nd most important tournament
of the PGA season.
By the way, even though he didn’t have Rahm, The Parlay Kid
moved to more than $6,000 to the good in our competition. If you
haven’t been following his picks, you’re foolish.
Once again the rules: each picker will get a simulated $200 to bet;
$100 of which will be on win bets and another $100 on top-5, top-
10, and top-20 bets only. The kicker this time is that the money
can only be spent on a maximum of three golfers in each
category. Picking winners has never been so difficult.
